Although Russia (in particular Moscow and Saint Petersburg) have taken huge steps toward modernization in the past decades, the Russian mentality can often seem quite outdated to foreigners from the US or Europe.
This is particularly true when it comes to dating and courtship – even in the younger generations.

Whereas American moms have given me candy and, if I was lucky, pigs in a blanket, my actual mother-in-law brings me watermelons, cakes, loaves of bread, and, on one occasion, a whole chicken. But I’m not going to address any of them here, because Russian men are awesome and I love being married to mine.

Albeit having spent the initial sixteen years of my life on Russian turf, I have probably dated a total of 1.5 Russian guys in my post-high school life.
While any quick Google search will come up with any number of (dubiously useful) tips for a western man about dating in Russia, there is a sad lack of advice for western ladies who decide to jump into the dating scene.
In large part this is likely due to the poor options that western women are presented with in any major Russian city.
